Indoor Pets can now help Reduce Food Allergies: Study

In a bid to continue the previous study done by the European Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, another study was recently conducted

This study aimed at understanding the complex relation between indoor pets and how they prove vital in reducing food related allergies

This was carried out by a number of Japanese scientists who were headed by Hisao Okabe, a well-known pediatrician at Fukushima Medical University

Initially it was carried out on babies and toddlers, which was later expanded to pregnant women

More than 66,215 children were exposed to the study with many others belonging to fetal stage

To better understand the result, a number of pet species were included, like dogs, cats, hamsters, birds, etc

Finally it was concluded that continuous exposure to indoor dogs and cats as pets was much more fruitful in reducing food allergies than others until the age of three

While this indeed is a great news amongst pet parents, further studies are required to be sure of the findings
