In an emotional video that surfaced in social media recently, an Afghan refugee has reunited with her pet dog after a year of separation

The reunion took place at the Peace Arch Border on 11th of March 2023

Lucky, the 3-year old Anatolian Shepherd and her sibling Leo, the cat were transported to Vancouver via a plane full of pets in February 2022

Amidst the growing chaos by Talibani groups, Freshta Siddiqui, a B.C. based Afghan refugee had to take this step fearing the safety of her pets

Reaching Vancouver both the pets were received by the concerned authorities and later transferred to a number of foster homes

This continued until Siddiqui and her mother could find a dog-friendly home in Vancouver and therefore handle the responsibility of the pets

"I'm filled with this overwhelming sense of joy and gratitude," stated Siddiqui while patiently waiting for Lucky to come back to her arms

More than 200 pets have been safely transported from Taliban-stricken Afghanistan and returned back to their owners within the past year
