Scientists from the University of South Carolina and National Human Genome Reserach Institute were involved in this study

The DNA of a total 302 dogs were collected from the area to study the effects of radiation

The final results were then published in the journal of Science Advances earlier this month

The idea for this study emerged after the previous surveys indicated certain differences in the genomes of microbes and birds residing in and around the CEZ area

To make the results more accurate, the DNA of dogs staying 10 miles away from the zone was also collected

And while scientists involved state that the results can be influenced by other critical factors such as inbreeding, it is still an interesting discovery

This has also opened a whole new area for other scientific studies and surveys
