While most dogs enjoy anything and everything, a few of them are very much prone to food sensitivities. This means such pups won’t be good with every food they come across. So when suddenly introduced to a new dish, they will mostly have diarrhea, throw up or end up suffering from severe health problems that will require immediate vet assistance.
And even though many pet food brands claim to be the best for canines with sensitive stomachs, not everyone passes the practicality. Today, in this blog I will be noting down my experience with Blue buffalo dog food and their pros and cons for usage in food-sensitive canines.
Is Blue Buffalo Dog Food Good for Sensitive Stomach?
Personally speaking, my dog had no issues with the Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly, although some pet parents have other opinions about the feed. Moreover given the past controversies surrounding Blue Buffalo, heeding extra care is a must when opting for dog food for sensitive stomach canines.
So, now coming to the main question, there is no definite proof that Blue Buffalo would be the best choice for dogs with food sensitivities. However, if we look closely at the composition of the Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly, then it could definitely be a good choice.
Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly- A Thorough Walkthrough
A dog feed that comes especially manufactured for woofers with heightened risks of stomach upset and reactivity, the Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly claims to have all the best ingredients. From a wheat-free composition to a formula that has only the best quality chicken, brown rice, cranberries, flaxseeds, etc., proper administration of the feed has been proven quite useful for sensitive canines.
Moreover, the feed is also manufactured by leading vets and PHD animal nutritionists, adding to their safety for canine consumption. Controlled and careful usage can lead to faster recovery, although consulting with your canine’s vet is still a must.
Now coming to the reason why I preferred the Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly over other popular dog food for sensitive stomachs is because of the company’s “True Blue Promise”. Although the dog food brand had its ups and downs in the past, currently every bag of theirs comes with the AAFCO seal. This shows that they have learnt from their past mistakes and are progressing ahead with extreme care and precaution.
Furthermore, this feed is entirely wheat-free, doesn’t contain wheat or soy, no poultry by-products, and no artificial colors and preservatives. So, no further risking my dogs’ lives or slowing their recovery.
What are the benefits of Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly?
The list of benefits include:
Specially Curated Formula
Well, the first benefit of this particular feed is that the contents are exclusively made for delicate tummies. All of the contents are carefully selected, tested and then mixed together, aiding to the efficiency of the kibbles. So, unlike other dog foods out there, offering a monitored amount of the food won’t do any further harm to your canine.
Secondly, thanks to its quality tested wholesome ingredients including chicken, brown rice, oatmeal, flaxseed, chicken meal and canola oil, the dog gets overall nutrition with every scoop. While flaxseed ensures their body gets essential omega 3 fatty acids, chicken is by far the best and the simplest meat for woofers to digest.
Similarly, canola oil provides them with required energy and stamina, oatmeal ensures fibers in their diet, cranberries infuses them with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, with brown rice being the best source of Vitamin-B, and complex carbohydrates.
True Blue Promise
Like I said earlier, the main reason why I chose Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly for my dog is because of the company’s “True Blue Promise”. As per this motto, the manufacturer doesn’t use poultry by-product meals, corn, wheat, soy, and even artificial colors and preservatives.
Usually these are the components that create skin and food allergies in sensitive canines, and therefore their absence means the feed is a definite try. Other attractive add-ons include certification and seal by the AAFCO, guaranteeing the use of only real and top quality ingredients.
Are there any possible side effects of administering Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly?
Before we discuss if the Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly could be a potential threat to your furry baby, it is highly necessary to understand that no matter how carefully a formula is created, there will always be a few exceptions. And here by exceptions we mean certain pups that won’t react in a good way. This can happen with any major food brand out there and therefore seeking your vet’s advice beforehand is a must.
However, in case of improper and heavy administration, the consequences may lead to:
- Skin rashes and itching, if the canine is allergic to any of the components
- Excessive panting
- Gastric issues
These are some of the common side effects of the food that will occur if the canine is suddenly introduced to the special diet, and also if they are allergic to any of the components. Therefore, not only getting professional’s aid is necessary, but a slow and guided introduction to the feed is a must.
How often do I feed the Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly?
Given that both my dogs are adults and not chronically sensitive, I usually administer the feed when they are recovering from any kind of sickness. It may be a slight gastric upset or after a tough time from any severe health condition.
For my little Spitz mix, I go with 75-100 gms of the dry kibbles, while for my Labrador the amount varies between 150-200 gms, followed by a cup of unsweetened yogurt. However, always remember that this amount and the frequency of feeding will be different for all dogs, thus, make sure to get a prior consultation from your little Fido’s veterinarian.
In this blog, I covered my thoughts about the Blue Buffalo dog food and if or not it is good for sensitive stomach canines. If you have your own opinions to voice, make sure to mention them in the comment section, so that other pet parents can also learn from you.
