Homemade Pumpkin Dog Treats: Easy and Healthy Recipe

Recipe 1: Pumpkin Puree and Wheat Flour

You will need

  • A cookie cutter (any shape will do, but a dog bone shape will look appealing to your little darling)
  • Whole wheat flour
  • Pumpkin puree ( made by blending chunks of roasted pumpkin )
  • rolling pins and parchment paper

Make dough flour using wheat flour and pumpkin puree together. Roll out the dough with the rolling pins, and after giving them the required shape using the cookie cutters, bake them for 30 minutes in a preheated oven ( preferably 350 Fahrenheit). I substitute the wheat flour with chickpea flour and oats flour for a change of taste, and my blues go crazy about them.

Cool them before serving. If the weather is cool, you can store them in counter jars for 5-7 days. If you live in areas with a warmer climate, refrigerate them.

Recipe 2: No Bake Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Treat

You will need

  • Three cups oats
  • Two eggs
  • 1 Boiled and mashed/pureed medium-sized pumpkin pumpkin

Mix the oats, eggs, and mashed pumpkin into a soft mixture. Make balls and refrigerate them for 1-2 hours before offering them to your furballs. I read once that some dogs can be allergic to eggs. Alternatively, you can use honey and peanut butter instead of eggs to make the balls.

You can finely grind the oats or use oats flour. I prefer coarsely ground oats as they are healthier and great for their coats.

Recipe 3: Pumpkin and Salmon

You will need

  • Pureed oats
  • A can of Salmon and boiled pumpkin
  • Eggs
  • Coconut oil

Combine the pumpkin and Salmon and add the oats and eggs to form a firm dough. Let the mixture rest for a while. Roll and cut the dough into the required shape and bake at 180 C for 15-20 minutes while keeping an eye on the treats.

I made them without the eggs while adjusting the consistency of the oats flour and was happy with the final results. If required, you can swap the oats with rice flour, and your canine babies will not feel any taste difference.

Recipe 4: Banana and Pumpkin treats

You will need

  • Pumpkin puree of one medium pumpkin
  • Two bananas
  • One egg
  • Flour

Mix the pureed pumpkin with the banana and eggs. Add the flour of your choice ( approximately 2-21/2 cups ) until you achieve a sugar cookie consistency. If your dog is allergic to grains, use grain-free or gluten-free flour like almond flour, coconut flour, buckwheat flour, oats flour, or quinoa flour instead.

Shape them into round floors and flatten them followed by fork-marking them for a visual treat. In the picture, green beans have been used to look like pumpkin stems. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-50 minutes or until the edges turn brown.
