Why switch to homemade food for Cocker Spaniels?

7 Vet recommended Easy Homemade Food for Cocker Spaniels
Cocker Spaniel in its majestic glory

No wonder branded dog food is highly nutritious, but sometimes they might be over-nutritious for your Cocker spaniel, without you even knowing it. There is no way that you can always measure what and how much your dog eats unless you have a personal tracker appointed for the same. Pretty expensive, ain’t it, mate!!!

And therefore, to reduce the risks of exposing their precious little pooch to high-protein food, pet parents are switching to homemade ones. What’s more??? Your adorable fur baby will also thank you for the palette change compared to munching down those dry, tasteless dog foods available in the market.

So, if you are a pet parent wondering about some easy-to-cook and scoop dog food dishes, you have arrived at the right destination. Let’s check out these scrumptious dishes now.

7 Vet recommended easy homemade dishes for Cocker Spaniels

The ‘Pawsome’ Happy Meal

Starting off the list with a perfectly balanced diet of all good things, your pooch will lick out the whole bowl within minutes. You will need Brown rice, ground chicken, peas, spinach, carrots, and the crunchy but healthy zucchini to prep this dish.

  • Start by cooking the brown rice according to the package instructions while simultaneously heating oil in a stockpot.
  • Afterward, you will need to cook the ground chicken until it has browned, followed by peas, spinach, carrots, and zucchini.
  • Make sure to stir the mixture until the spinach has wilted, and finally, complete the process by adding in the rice.
  • Cook on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes. Serve once cooled completely.

The ‘Ultimutt’ diet

Dogs love the smell of meat; there’s no doubt. But did you know you can scoop up a delicious happy meal with just 15-20 minutes of your time while also ensuring that your Cocker Spaniel is both happy and filled? For this, you will simply be needing brown rice and meat, either chicken or turkey, based upon your pupper’s taste preference.

  • Wash the rice and meat in different utensils.
  • Once done, make sure to cut down the whole meat into smaller pieces for easy digestion.
  • Pour both the contents into a pressure cooker and let them boil for 15 minutes. You can also add potato or carrots to give the mixture a better taste.

The ‘Fur-bulous’ Beef Stew

Another thick appetizing homemade dish that every Cocker Spaniel is crazy about is the beef stew. Made with utmost love and a perfect combination of high-protein food items, the dish is best suitable for days when you feel like rewarding your pups with a regal meal. The ingredients for this furbulous meal include grounded beef, diced potato and carrots, frozen peas, and water. You may also switch the beef with other meats in case your pup is allergic.

  • Saute the beef in a pot until it is no longer pink. However, for leaner meats, you might want to add some coconut oil.
  • Afterward, add in diced potato and carrots, followed by enough water to cover the vegetables.
  • Stir the mixture in medium flame for some time and keep it boiling for at least a good 20 minutes for the water to sustain the gravy taste.
  • Follow with frozen peas and serve when cooled.

The ‘Paw-ty’ special

A light-hearted breakfast special for the majestic Cocker Spaniels, the pumpkin and yogurt bowl is a definite mood maker. Filled with the goodness of protein, vitamins, and minerals, your pup won’t even back away from licking your fingers clean. And what’s more? You don’t even have to spend time prepping up for the dish as this only requires you to cut, stir, and serve.

  • Wash the pumpkin well before cutting it into small pieces.
  • Grind these pieces until it turns into a paste. You can also use pumpkin puree, which is generally available in the market in packets.
  • Mix the puree in Greek yogurt, if possible, or other fat-free yogurts as it is both healthy as well as tasty.
  • You can also add plant-based vitamin and mineral powder on top before serving your pooch with the special dish for flavor.

The ‘Paw-er’ Spinach and Salmon scramble

A dish pumped with the powerful benefits of spinach and yumminess of the salmon fish, giving your pup this regularly ensures their optimal health at all stages. What’s more? Even pet parents can enjoy this scrumptious diet along with their furry partners as a breakfast or evening snack. You will need extra virgin olive oil, skinless, boneless salmon, frozen chopped spinach, and two eggs.

  • Start by draining the spinach and salmon well in separate containers. This will allow the taste to come across more efficiently.
  • Heat the extra virgin olive oil depending upon the amount of the dish you are going for.
  • Next, add spinach and salmon and keep on cooking until the mixture is heated through.
  • Afterward, add the eggs, stirring them continuously for two minutes so that all the egg yolk and white are thoroughly mixed.
  • Serve when cooled.

The Vegan ‘Dog-light’

Now a dish made specifically for vegan loving pet parents, this happy dog bowl is a super-duper hit item that you should try out. Made with all healthy veggies, this dish is super easy to digest and has a higher carbohydrate and calorie count. So, your pupper will have enough energy to keep you company for long. Ingredients include sweet potato, canned black beans, uncooked brown rice, and kale leaf stems.

  • Preheat your oven to a temperature of 400F while lining the baking sheet with tin foil.
  • Follow the process by multiple piercing of the sweet potato and baking it within the oven.
  • You will also need to prepare rice in the meantime at low flame for at least 45 minutes.
  • Once the sweet potato is cooled, chop it into small pieces before adding it to the prepared rice. Mix the beans and kale stems in the mixture altogether.
  • Finally, you can give this super healthy meal to your Cocker Spaniel once it has cooled down completely.

The ‘A-paw-ling’ Chicken balls

Finally, as a vet recommended homemade food for the Cocker Spaniels, nothing’s better than simple chicken and rice. Somewhat similar to the ‘ultimutt’ diet as we learned about previously, this dish has the appearance of handmade balls, hence the name. To prepare this, you will need chicken or turkey, orange sweet potatoes, frozen peas, brown rice, parsley leaves, carrots, and kale without their stems.

  • Roast the chicken on a medium flame for 10-15 minutes until all water and juices have completely dried out.
  • In the meantime, start cooking the rice and let it cool once done.
  • Peel off the carrots and orange sweet potatoes and put them in boiling water along with kale and peas. You can also add apples but make sure to remove their seeds.
  • For 30 minutes, keep the mixture boiling and simmering on a medium flame.
  • Scramble the eggs and fry them in a pan before adding them to the pureed veggies.
  • You will also be required to shred the cooled chicken into smaller pieces to make it easier for the pups to digest.
  • Add the puree, rice, scrambled eggs, and chicken together, and serve it to your Cocker Spaniel.

There is no wonder a lot of choices when picking out vet-recommended easy homemade food for Cocker Spaniels. However, only a few might suit your pooch’s health and diet type. Therefore, careful observation and proper planning are a must before subjecting them to any diet change.
