About

The Tibetan mastiff puppy is the offspring of the Tibetan mastiff, a mountain dog originally bred as a guard dog to protect the monasteries and their residents from wild animals.

The King Charles Spaniel puppy is the offspring of the Cavalier King Charles, a British breed of lap dog developed for show purposes.

Origin

Tibetan Mastiffs have a nomadic origin and have been documented as developing from the Tibetan Dogs around 1100 BC.

Cavalier King Charles originated from the English toy spaniel or the English Spaniel in the early 1900s.

Appearance

Tibetan mastiff puppies have a lion-like appearance partly because of their close-set eyes and double coats that enable a calm, dignified appearance.

King Charles Cavalier Puppies have eyes set apart and larger eyes with a gentle, sweet appearance.

Weight

An average litter of Tibetan Mastiffs consists of 5-12 puppies, and males weigh more than females. In the first month, male and female pups weigh the same (5-10lb). The male pup’s weight gradually increases from the second month and remains higher than that of females.

Age  Male weight  Female Weight
1 month 5-10 lb  5-10 lb
2 months  15-30 lb 10-25 lb
3 months 30-45 lb 25-40 lb
4 months  45-65 lb  20-45 lb
5 months  50-75 lb 35-60 lb
6 months  55-85 lb  40-60 lb

A spaniel litter, on average, consists of 5-7 puppies, and their weight in the first month is around 1.5- 2.5 lbs. There is much size difference between males and females.

Age  Weight
1 month 1.5-2.5 lb
2 months 4-5.2 lb
3 months  5.7-7.9 lb
4 months  7.5-10.1 lb
5 months  9.2- 12.5 lb
6 months  10.3-14.1 lb

Height

Adult Tibetan Mastiffs are between 26 and 29 inches (male) and 24 and 27 inches (female). A Tibetan mastiff puppy is approximately 10 and 15 inches a month and gradually grows. Apart from age, gender, birthing order, health play an important role in determining the height of a Tibetan Mastiff. Males pups are larger than females. The firstborns are bigger than the later ones, with the runt( last born) having the smallest size.

Whereas adult Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are generally 13 to 18 inches tall, regardless of gender. A Cavalier King Charles Puppy is approximately 6-8 inches in 2nd month, and they continue to grow till 15 months. Pedigree, genetics, and nutritional habits determine the height and growth of a cavalier puppy.

Temperament

Tibetan Pups are not loud; they bark only when they notice a threat or draw your attention to something they want to show you. Despite that, they are not stranger friendly and need formal training or supervision with other pets. They are territorial, and introducing them to your other pet, like cats, might take time.

King Charles Cavaliers are of a quiet and docile temperament and don’t bark a lot. They happily get along with strangers, cats, and other pets. They suffer from separation anxiety and can get destructive when left alone for a long time.

Neither breed copes well with heat and is susceptible to heat stress.

Substance

Because of their mountainous origin, Tibetan Mastiff pups have robust substances and strong bones.

On the other hand, Cavalier King Charles Puppies have a slender substance and comparatively thin bones.

Expression

Tibetan Mastiff pups have a noble, sagacious expression that a few animal experts term ‘aloof’ because of their expressive countenance. As adorable as they look, new owners should not opt for a Tibetan mastiff pup because of trainability and maintenance concerns.

Cavalier King Charles pups have a sweet, gentle, melting expression accentuated by their large eyes. They are ideal for inexperienced or new owners because of being easy to train.

Coat

Tibetan Mastiff pups are double-coated with comparatively coarser guard hair. They shed moderately throughout the year, with the heaviest shedding phase in the spring season.

Cavaliers are single-coated as well, with lustrous, silky guard hairs. They shed less than mastiffs and require coat maintenance. Unlike mastiffs, they don’t shed seasonally.

Drool

Tibetan Mastiffs are moderate droolers, and potential owners need to understand that the drooling may occasionally stain fabric or upholstery.

Cavalier King Charles puppies have negligible drooling and are comparatively easy to maintain.

With Children

Tibetan Mastiff pups can be good with children if trained and socialized timely. Some experts have observed that after proper training, they can be left alone with older children, not toddlers or babies.

King Charles Cavalier Puppies are great with children and make pleasurable companions.

Exercise

Tibetan Mastiff Puppies need at least 45-60 minutes of exercise daily with 10-15 minute walks twice or thrice weekly. They also sleep more than smaller breed pups because they use more energy to move around and are tired easily.

30-40 minutes of daily exercise are sufficient for King Charles Spaniels pups. One walk a day is enough for them.

Diet

Tibetan Mastiff puppy diets require at least 22.5% protein and 8.5% fat, preferably from quality animal sources. Blue Buffalo, Swinger, and Instinct are some of the dog foods best for them.

Cavalier puppies require 18-20% protein with 8% fat daily. Small breed formulas such as Royal Canin Cavalier Puppy, Hill’s Science Diet Small Breed Puppy, and Advance Small Breed Puppy Food are ideal for them.

Living Environment

Because of their size and energy levels, Tibetan Mastiff pups are unsuitable for apartments or small properties. They thrive in large homes with secure, fenced boundaries. They have high intelligence in working or obedience and are not distracted easily.

Cavalier King Charles pups are an adaptable breed and adapt quickly in apartments and larger superb properties with yards. They are moderately intelligent, take time to learn commands quickly, and are distracted easily.

Maintenance and Overall Temperament

Tibetan Mastiffs and King Charles Cavalier pups have high-maintenance coats and must be brushed daily. King Charles Cavalier Pups and adults are cuddlers and love nothing more than to cuddle with their family. They take time following instructions, and potty training them may take more time.

Tibetan Mastiff pups are cuddle friendly but, at times, can be moody. They are generally clean dogs and can be potty trained in less time.
